10 years ago....

....I came to Mutsu City as a middle school student!!!! It changed my life. I came back from that trip with so many new friends, a better understanding of another culture, and a new dream. I told my dad "I am going to teach in Japan someday". Well, that dream came true. Since then, I came back to Mutsu 2 other times for more exchanges and to see friends. The sister city program between Port Angeles and Mutsu City continues with groups of students coming and going. I just recently enjoyed 4 days with the group from PA. I was able to spend a whole day at a school with 5 middle school students, which definately brought me back to when I was their age. Wow! I also studied Japanese for 3 years in high school, 1 year in college, and have stayed in touch with many of my Japanese friends. In college, I began to research programs that would help me teach in Japan. I applied for the JET Program and requested Mutsu. I was beyond excited when my request was granted. Now, I have been living here for 9 1/2 months and have been able to see old friends and do more things that I never thought was possible. I will be here for 2 more months and plan to continue to love the people here and experience all that I can. I am so thankful to be here in Mutsu City....10 years later!
